Cost to Replace Roof Shingles in Florida

Cost to Replace Roof Shingles in Florida

Roofing problems rarely come at convenient times. So whether you need some minor roof repairs or a complete shingle roof replacement, it’s normal to have some questions about the price. And that puts many homeowners in an awkward position, because there are a lot of factors that go into determining the cost to replace roof shingles.

But figuring it all out is a lot easier with a guide. At Classic Roofing and Construction, we make it our business to help our customers make informed roofing decisions. Today, we’re going to explain how much it costs to replace roof shingles so you can have an idea of how much your roofing work could cost you.

Cost to Replace Roof Shingles: Repairs

It’s normal for roof shingles to come off from time to time, especially after a major storm. This is called wind uplift, and it happens when high winds get beneath the shingle and force it off your roof. But the good news is that, assuming you haven’t lost half or more of your shingles, this shouldn’t require a total roof replacement.

So how much does it cost to replace roof shingles after a storm blows them off? Well, that depends on the shingles. 3-tab shingles are extremely affordable, so they might only cost you three to four dollars per square foot. Architectural shingles are a bit more expensive at around seven dollars per square foot.  Finally, luxury shingles have a wide price range, but you can expect to pay between nine and $15 per square foot.

This means that in theory, the cost to replace roof shingles should be very low, especially if you’re only missing a few shingles. But there are other things that can raise the price of your shingle roof repair project. First, you’ll need to consider the labor costs. The good news is that labor costs for shingle roof repairs are usually low, so you should still be looking at costs in the hundreds, not thousands.

But another factor is how long you’ve been missing shingles. If your shingles have been missing for months, then there could be water damage to your roof’s decking. If this happens, entire sections of shingles may need to be removed and replaced so that the roofers can replace your home’s decking. Otherwise, a minor shingle roof repair could grow into a structural concern. In these circumstances, you can expect the cost of replacing your shingles to jump significantly. In the worst case, it could even require a total roof replacement.

As you probably expect, the cost to replace roof shingles is much higher with a roof replacement. For this to be necessary, your roof must either be missing half or more of its shingles or experiencing a major structural issue. Signs of structural damage to your roof include interior water damage, cracks in your walls, or a bulge in your ceiling.

In these cases, the raw material costs don’t change, so you’re still paying just as much for the new shingles. But that’s not all that you’re paying for. You’ll also need to add in the costs for a new water-resistant underlayment, attic ventilation, roof flashing, and potentially replacing parts of your roof decking. All of this adds up, and all of it is essential to giving you a strong, resilient roof.

So how much will a shingle roof replacement cost? It varies based on the type of shingle, the size of your roof, and unique features like chimneys or skylights. But here are the ranges of how much it can cost to replace a shingle roof:

  • 3-Tab: As covered above, 3-tab shingles cost around four dollars per square foot. When you add on labor costs and other parts of a roofing system, the total cost will probably be around $8,000, depending on the size and features of your roof.
  • Architectural: Also called laminate shingles, these are available for roughly seven dollars per square foot. And on average, a roof replacement with architectural shingles will cost closer to $12,000.
  • Luxury: With all of these shingles, there is some amount of guesswork in determining the total cost without knowing the measurements of your roof. But this is especially true for luxury shingles since they come in so many different forms with different prices. That said, on average, a luxury shingle roof replacement in Florida will likely cost $20,000 or more.

Getting Shingle Roof Cost Estimates in Florida

These numbers are as accurate as we can make them without specifics, but unfortunately, that does not make them reliable figures. But there are two ways to discover the cost to replace roof shingles on your home.

The first way to get a shingle repair or replacement quote is to have an in-person inspection. At Classic, we do this as a routine part of generating free roofing estimates. During your roof inspection, one of our roofing experts will collect your roof’s measurements, assess any damage or missing shingles, and take note of any unique roofing features.

Then, using all of this information, they will give you a thorough, detailed estimate that’s tailored to your roof and covers the full scope of the work needed to make your roof safe again.

But if you’d prefer not to have an in-person roof inspection, there’s another way to get a roofing quote. You could get an express roofing estimate, which uses satellite images to find the exact dimensions of your roof. But this option has two stipulations. First, there must not be any trees blocking the view of your roof from the satellite. And second, this works best for a roof that you know will need replacing, since an old image won’t show how many shingles are currently missing.

Both of these options will give you an exact cost to replace roof shingles. And from there, you’ll be able to make an informed decision about the future of your home. So reach out to Classic and let us show you why we’ve been trusted shingle roofing experts in Florida for more than 20 years!
